Regardless of the place you find yourself, understand you are the reason you are there. A sum of decisions, whether active or inactive, led you to this exact point.
Although not always in your control, certain decisions made have had an influence, your job, environment, and things that occur in your life. Try not to view these as faults to blame; view them as factors that influence your life. Blaming only opens the door to shift accountability, handing over the very control you need to do something about your current situation.
In the first chapter, Bansir (chariot builder) and his friend, Kobbi (musician) recognise they've been working jobs, toiling away without ever feeling like it paid off. Time is a convertible asset, it gets exchanged for money through labour, yet for all the time they'd converted, they retained not much.Their work equated their needs only not their wants.

The first step is recognising your situation, becoming more aware of what you're doing. The longer it takes to recognise, the longer it takes to take the actionable steps that help get you out of that situation.
Not having the awareness makes you dull to the dangers of coasting, doing things for the sake of it. Many of us have been running on habits that don't serve what we actually want to achieve, going through the motions because that's what we're supposed to do, because that's how it's always been done.
Being blind to your situation leaves you more open to attack from factors out of your control. The safest person in the 'game' isn't the one who doesn't play or ignores it, it's the one who understands it so well they see the gaps to move to safety constantly.
